Summer’s just around the corner, and with it comes all the fun of the outdoors!
Training classes, group walks with their canine buddies, visits to the grooming parlour – our dogs also love to get out and about, but as a result meet more potentially infected dogs and we see a seasonal increase in Kennel Cough.
(Bear with us here for a small rant – Kennel Cough is a rubbish name and pretty unhelpful for conscientious owners who are misled into thinking that their pooch isn’t at risk from the disease as they don’t go into kennels – it’s estimated that less than half of cases originate in kennels, so whilst a pretty major risk factor, it’s certainly not the only source of potential infection. Rant over.)
If you can stomach it, take a look at this film below to get a taster of what we see every week…
Kennel Cough usually results in 3-4 weeks of hacking cough, a trip to the vet and a long course of antibiotics and anti-inflammatories to treat – more seriously, it can be fatal in young or elderly dogs. Kennels may cancel your booking, and you won’t be able to go to training or dog shows.
Vaccination is easy, safe, lasts for a year, and can be given on its own or alongside your dog’s usual annual vaccination. It’s given in a novel way – squirted up the nostril for optimum efficacy (which can be a surprise to many owners), with the onset of immunity from 3 days post vaccination.
All through April we’ll be offering Kennel Cough Vaccination for only £15 instead of the usual price of £30.78 to get your dog’s vaccination status up to speed.
