Spring is springing (apparently!) so it seems like a good time to start a new surgery newsletter. We’ll be sending a weekly short bulletin like this, then every month a longer more in depth look at what we’re up to.
We’re lucky enough to work with some amazing people and animals, and I’m going to enjoy sharing their stories with you.John
Diefenbacher (or Dief to his friends – of which he doesn’t count me one!) is a four year old Malamute cross who has been battling epilepsy for the last 18 months. It’s been a real balancing act trying to get his medication right, but his owner Klare Maggs has been unbelievably conscientious and as a result of her dedication, up until now he’s lead a normal active life.Last month Dief started to vomit. What cleared up quickly with symptomatic treatment returned within a couple of weeks, and during exploratory surgery Klare was told the devastating news that Dief had terminal pancreatic cancer. Since Dief’s signs could be controlled with medication, Klare took the decision to wake him up to take him home and spend time together for the last weeks of his life. Klare was kind enough to share with us her experience of looking after a much loved family member with a serious diagnosis.

Charity dog Walk
Sunday 29th April
Come and join us on a 2-3 mile walk across Thorpe Mandeville’s beautiful countryside in aid of Katherine House Hospice.
Meet – 11 am at ‘The Three Conies‘ Banbury Lane, Thorpe Mandeville, OX17 2EX. Leigh and Tanicha will kindly provide us with hot drinks and cake afterwards or you could even book a table for a pub lunch!
Suggested donation of £5 – all proceeds to Katherine House Hospice.
