What to do
During opening hours
Contact us immediately, then bring your animal along to the surgery as normal. There we have all the medicines and equipment that we need to treat your animal.
Outside opening hours
In the event of an emergency the first thing to do is call the usual surgery number. Our answering service will provide you with the correct phone number to contact the vet on call for instant advice and to arrange an emergency appointment.
Where would my animal be treated?
Out-of-hours emergencies are seen and treated by our vet at the home surgery in Middleton Cheney, Monday to Friday inclusive.
At weekends (from 12noon Saturday to 8.30am Monday), West Bar Veterinary Hospital in Banbury takes care of emergencies on our behalf. If your animal receives emergency treatment at West Bar, then you and your animal will be invited to Mansion Hill for a free follow-up consultation to ensure you are completely happy with the course of treatment and that your animal is recovering well.
How much does an out-of-hours consultation cost?
Outside normal surgery hours, consultations are charged at £80 plus the cost of drugs. An additional visit fee will be added for consultations that take place at your home. At the weekend, West Bar Veterinary Hospital operate a sliding-scale charge for out-of-hours emergencies - please ask the vet on call the charge for an emergency consultation at the time of your emergency.
Polite request
If you are unsure whether your animal requires immediate assistance, please don't hesitate to call us for advice whether your animal should be seen.
However, please use the emergency service responsibly. Calls for general health advice, to book appointments or for any other non-urgent enquiries should be restricted to opening hours only.
What if John is on holiday?
Call the surgery as usual to hear the telephone number of the duty vet. Either our regular locum vet will provide the emergency service at our Middleton Cheney surgery, or an arrangement will be in place for one of our colleagues at a neighbouring practice to look after you and your animal.
