 What is an emergency?

Seeing your animal injured or anxious is always distressing, so it’s good to be familiar with the conditions that are potentially life-threatening and that require immediate veterinary attention.

Emergencies include:
- suspected poisoning
- road traffic accidents
- severe bloating or gastric dilation
- persistent diarrhoea or vomiting
- Severe unrelenting pain
- Persistent bleeding
- Head / spinal or eye injuries

In these circumstances, your animal needs to be seen immediately. Most other complaints, even if uncomfortable for the animal, are unlikely to be life-threatening, but should still be seen by a veterinary surgeon at the earliest opportunity.

If you are unsure whether your animal requires immediate assistance, please call us.
