 Local walks- Edgcote Hill Triangle

Edgcote Hill Triangle

5 km (2 hours)

Where to park the car: Street Parking in Upper Wardington

A great walk with plenty of safe areas for well behaved dogs to go off the lead, taking in the beautiful views from Edgcote Hill.

  • From the phone box next to the parish council noticeboard, walk down the grassy bank to a footpath sign
  • Follow the footpath passing between Lorazia House on left and Tythe Cottage on the right.
  • Proceed through a metal kissing gate and head across the field diagonally left towards the far corner.  Watch out for livestock in this field dogs may need to stay on leads!
  • At the corner of the field, pass through two gates in quick succession, and head gently uphill following the Jurassic Way footpath marker
  • On reaching a style over the brow of the hill, climb it and cross the next field again diagonally left, aiming towards a gap in the trees
  • Go through the gap in the trees and then through a metal gate.  Now bear right heading off the farm track to skirt round the spinney (outcrop of trees)
  • After skirting the spinney, and reaching some over-head power cables, head down the hill firstly aiming for a gap in the hedge and then a small group houses further in the distance
  •  At the gap in the hedge, climb the two wooden styles and then continue following the path in the same direction across the next field, aiming for the group of houses.
  • On reaching the corner of the field, turn right joining a road
  • Follow the road until you reach a post box and a severe bend in the road.
  • Before the road bends hard right, turn right to join the left hand edge of a field, keeping the narrow strip of woodland on your left. Continue to walk around the edge of the field, at the corner, turning right to pass a decaying tree and paddocks (on your left) and then join a wide farm track for approx 75 yards.
  • Before reaching a large oak tree and gallops, turn left across a large field, heading gently uphill in the direction of a large house on the hill with a red front door.
  • At the corner of the field, join the road and follow it uphill until it peters out, passing the large house and the side of farm buildings on your right.
  • At the end, turn right, still keeping the buildings on your right hand side then join the left edge of a field.
  • Almost immediately head across the field, bearing right - following the direction indicated by a footpath way marker towards a barn on the horizon with its roof just in view.
  • After reaching the edge of the field continue straight on along the right hand edge of the next field still heading for the barn.   Watch out for a great view on your right hand side.
  • Continue following the track through a wide gap in the hedge, now keeping the hedge on your left, and passing under over-head power lines and the barn on your left.
  • Continue towards the tress ahead, ignoring the track on your right.
  • At this point its worth watching out for the muck heap and run off puddles if your dogs are like ours youll be due for a smelly journey in the car home!
  • At the trees, climb the style, re-joining your out-going route.  Re-trace your steps following the Jurassic Way footpath way-markers, back to Upper Wardington.
